DOUG & THE SLUGZ 'Wreck The Neighborhood' 12" LP

The origins of DOUG & THE SLUGZ started in early 1983. By the end of 1984 there was a short-lived period of time that they went by the name THE RISK, due to local promoters not wanting to take the risk of booking a skinhead band. However by 1985, the name was changed back and the band had a clear mission: to bring the sound and style of London to Los Angeles. Jump forward 40 years to 2024 and this contemporary release of brand new songs sounds like anything but – like pages torn out of a journal from the mid-80s, ‘Wreck The Neighborhood’ tells the tale of skinhead youth of days gone by. This is a sonic diary from the perspective of front man Doug Dagger, putting stories of his wayward teenage years to music that also captures that era.
It is all too easy to bestow superfluous labels on bands, but Doug & The Slugz ARE a seminal and ground-breaking band in the history of skinhead and Oi! music in America. This album is the crowning glory of 40+ years of his contribution to punk rock’n’roll and should be in every punk and Oi! fans record collection.

In Doug’s own words (from a post to his Instagram on February 1, 2024):
“I feel we have created a good example and honest re-creation of what we would have done back in the early 1980’s, just played a little better, but not over-played. I’ve always tried to keep this band as connected to its roots as much as possible. To me, Oi! music was always a youthful scene. It was rebellious street music for kids and the music was made by kids.”
